Editing the host file
Open the run dialogue box by pressing the Windows+R key then you have to open command mode by typing CMD and pressing enter.
Now in the command prompt write “ipconfig/all” and press enter to run this command.
Now you have to note down the hostname and IP address somewhere because you are required to repeat the same process for all the computers which have a multi-user setup.
Now edit the Windows host file
The first step is to shut down the QuickBooks and go to the start menu then go to This pc and make sure that you are at the following location: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc or C:\Windows\Syswow64\Drivers\Etc.
If you are not able to see the Windows folder on This Pc then follow the steps to unhide the folder.
Now go to the view tab option and then click on hidden items. Now you will see the hidden folders.
Now right-click on the host file and select the option open with and open it with notepad.
Fill in the IP address and computer name and please use the tab key to put the spaces don't use a space bar when you fill in the details of the IP address and computer name.
The last step is to save the changes and reopen the QuickBooks in multi-user mode.
